Here’s a question: I play every year and come in like dead last every year. Should I just auto pick?

Here’s a question: I play every year and come in like dead last every year. Should I just auto pick? If you were able to designate how many of each positions for it to auto-draft, it wouldn't be a bad strategy. Unfortunately the computer loads you up on hitters and only drafts the min amount of pitchers. But who knows, maybe that'll work better than your current strategy.

Hey Whitey
I suck too, but...
Don't auto draft. I tried that last year and I ended up with TREY TURNER. Yeah, you know, the Trea Turner with a Y on the end of his 1st name. Big fucking stats from him.
It takes us about a week or so to draft? Make the time.
So, no masturbating that week. Drinking is okay. Just don't jerk off.
You can do it.

Its pretty dead in here right now so i thought i'd do a little blog or whatever on a bestball i am currently doing. Maybe this will encourage a few more to sign up for our league. 6 spots left. So i've been getting more and more into best balls on fantrax. Everbody loves drafting but not many can handle so many leagues doing FAAB or whatever. Bestball is perfect for me as you draft and are done. Last year i entered 15 bestball leagues. 8 were Fantrax Double ups, the others were private leagues like ours. Some of those only paid out the top 2, some were a cumulative league similar to NFBC where only the top few players across multiple leagues earn decent returns. Overall i was profitable but this year other than our own league, i am going to stick to Fantrax's standard double ups. I won (came in top 5) in all 8 of those leagues. I normally stick to $10 or $25 drafts but this current one is $100. Im challenging myself and dont see me having as much time this year to do another 5-10 drafts by opening day. Anyways - I'll be taking you all through my thought process (or lack there of) on my picks. This Draft im picking out of the 9 spot. Here are the picks before me. I'll probably say this a million times as we go along but I had a hard time deciding on this one. I ended up picking Trea Turner. In my previous drafts this year Ive been holding off on SS until later rounds becuase i feel it is very deep. I thoght about taking either GCole as SP is so vaulable in this format or Y Alvarez. I ended up with Turner mainly because i feel he could easily be the top point getter at the end of the season due to his volume. YAlvarez worries me on injuries and for some reason i trust Turners health and peformance just a bit more than Cole. With only 7 spots until my next pick, im sure Cole will be gone but there is a small chance Alvarez may still be there.

With my 2nd pick both Cole and Alvarez was gone. This is my personal draft board. Here who was taken before and my draft board of who is available with ADPs of my last 2 drafts. Of course just about everyone I wanted was taken. I would have taken Nola but now I'll wait until round 3 likely to take my 1st SP. In general, not a big fan of Machado for some reason but 3B is very shallow and i may have taken him. Was thinking Alvarez and Cole would be gone so i was kind of hoping Vlad would be there as just 2 years ago he was the top point getter in bestball i believe. Ended up with Trout. Risky move due to his constant health issues but obviously his upside is as good as anyone. Current roster: C C 1B 1B 1B 2B 2B 2B 3B 3B 3B SS TTurner SS SS OF Trout OF OF OF OF OF OF OF OF P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P

Heres the board for my 3rd pick. Was fully expecting to take SP here but couldnt pass on Semien. Behind Judge, he was the 2nd highest point getter from June 1 on last year. It looks like people are scared of the DeGrom news - another risky pick but I may consider him with my 4th. C C 1B 1B 1B 2B Semien 2B 2B 3B 3B 3B SS TTurner SS SS OF Trout OF OF OF OF OF OF OF OF P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P P

Went with deGrom here. Probably should have played it safer with Gallen/Wheeler/Urias. Glad Olson was taken or else I may have talked myself into him. Will be looking for Arenado/Bregman with the 6th if they make it.

One before my pick going to autodraft Rutchman. I normally wait really long on C so not sure why im doing this. I know some of the bestball 'experts' recommed getting C early. Biggest reason im going C here is bc im not a fan of the SP around this ADP. I think i can wait a round or two and pick up some vets. OF here are very risky too and i usually like to wait fairly long on OF. Considered Gunnar here but i like vets more in bestball. Ideally i can get Ructchman here, MCHapman next round then focus on P for a few rounds. We'll see.

Ill do 2 picks at a time because im unsure if anyone is really following this. CHapman was there so i took him. 3b seems shallow and he intriuges me. Didnt like SP options, decided to go with Adolis Garcia. Dont really like him much but seems like good value at this point. He puts up good bestball points consistently somehouw. This group seems to be risk adverse so im going risky. May target Buxton if he makes it next round but really need to work on P.

Picking Tim Anderson here. Wanted SP but I really like TA this year. May get him in 7 picks from now but guy in the 12 spot hasnt picked a SS yet so i may lose him. Will definitly get SP next round and having both Turner and TA at SS may allow me to only go with 2 SS rather than 3. I can use that extra spot for OF or SP later. Going to setup autodraft for my next pick of Lynn, Bassit, Luzarado and Singer.

Ended up with Luzardo as my autodraft on those pitchers. Ooof. I like him but again, pretty risky. Was hoping for Lynn for sure.

Wrote up a paragraph for why i was taking Joe Ryan at this pick then decided to pivot to Kwan. There are so many intriguing SP at this point i talked myself out of it and will wait a bit. This is the hardest draft ive done. Not sure if its bc of the competition, the higher stakes or because im putting my thoughts into writing and rethinking myself. This is unlike any of my other drafts and we'll see if its for the better or worse.

Probably going to load up on P for a bit. Went Jon Gray here. Somewhat boring, hoping for 160+ IP. Considered Berrios and Sandoval. Will likely go with Berrios if hes there in 7 picks.

Went Berrios here. Was pretty awful last year and still put up decent points. One of the higher upside P here in my opinion. Could have gone with a closer like Pressley who gets about 350pts, Berrios got 290 last year and previously put up 450+ seasons. Hoping for a bounce back.

Got a little drunk on this fine tuesday night and autopicked pablo sandoval. Could be worse. Next pick wont be due until tomorrow morning. will take suggestions until then. Considering: Stepehson at Catcher and locking that up. Need 1B still may wait till next round and grab 2 (theres still like 8 guys that i woundnt mind taking 3 of). 2b sucks, whit is aalable, does he bounce bac? i like options later at 3b. OF has some nice options but could wait. lots of names at P i could take makes me thingk i can wait.

Last two picks took Jutin Turner & Andrew Benintendi. Pretty sure ive drafted Turner in all 5 of my bestballs ive done this year, could be a steal this far down if he returns to form. Chose Benintendi as a 'safer' OF option onsidering what i currently have. This is the 1st time ive gone with a no 1B strategy - not liking it one bit. Upcoming 2 picks im going to be looking at 1B and 2B. Seth Brown puts up good pts but dont trust him.
