Welcome to the NL West, the last of our divisional power rankings! Our most consistently predicted division with only one spot differing in opinion one time. Scott's got the write ups for this division. As always, tell us why we're wrong in the comments. Enjoy! Tomorrow's post will reveal the entire 30 in order as well as some facts about our rankings and teams.
Previously on Winter Power Rankings: Overview, AL East, AL Central, AL West, NL East, NL Central
San Diego Padres - 5th NL WEST (One 4th, Three 5th)
JDM contract will likely put Friars in a tough spot financially. Lots of interesting SP assuming healthy. This could be a sneaky good team if Rich can find SVs and HLDs on the cheap.
Strength: SP Weakness: Salary Cap & RP
LA Dodgers - 4th NL WEST (Three 4th, One 5th)
Rebuilding team, lots of interesting prospects. Would liked to have seen more front loaded contracts on Herrera/Villar to really set LAD up for the future.
Strength: Prospects Weakness: Villar
Colorado Rockies - 3rd NL WEST (Consensus)
Solid but unspectacular team. Nelson injury hurts. In need of OF and RP.
Strength: C depth Weakness: OF
Arizona Diamondbacks - 2nd NL WEST (Consensus)
I see boom or bust for Dbacks. A lot rides on Miggys shoulders/knees. Lack of depth - currently relying on 2 rookies (McMahon & Meadows). If they both dont see full time ABs, Dbacks could struggle.
Strength: HLDs Weakness: Blackmon/LeMahieu contracts in the future
San Francisco Giants - 1st NL WEST (Consensus)
Team to beat in NLW but still has a lot of question marks. Will Grandal see enough playing time? Will we see 1st or 2nd half Travis Shaw? Can Marwin Gonzalez repeat his 2017 performance? Need to add some HLDs & SP depth but have plenty of cap space to do so. (Scott's note: He blew all his cap space after writing this)
Strength: Offense Weakness: SP Depth & HLDs
Next up: The Grand Finale (tomorrow)
