CONTENDER Washington Nationals: Looking to win the division for the 6th time in the last 7 years and make the playoffs for the 7th year in a row. Year to year, the team changes but they're always a contender; none of this rebuilding crap. All joking aside, I expect to win it again this year and bomb in the playoffs like usual. Starting pitching is the week point for this team but a few potential innings eaters waiting in the wings. A lot of question marks on offense: can Dahl get healthy, can Puig ever get back to his best, can Bradley repeat or take the next step? Either way, it should be another good year for the fake Nats.
USELESS WILD CARD Atlanta Braves: The sleeping giant, Swo, may finally be awakened! For my sake, I hope not. He has quietly put together a solid team that will be ready to compete. Solid offense and more on the way but I don't think the pitching staff has enough to take the division. Real good shot at making the wild card with potential to come out on top. The bones are there for a good team this year and beyond.
PRETENDER New York Mets: He was lucky enough to get more family members in the league to steal Trout; otherwise, this offense would be sparse. No bench, only a few producers and no help on the way. The pitching staff might be worse. No closers, few reliable starters and no help on the way. With no prospects to speak of an no money reserves, things are looking bleak in Flushing.
ALSO RAN Miami Marlins: Three stud pitchers anchor the staff but little else. Already fighting injuries to a couple infielders that produce. The outfield is pretty weak. It might be time to tear this team apart and build it back up. The Marlins have (4) studs: MadBum, Cueto, Thor and Altuve. It would be great to be able to hold on to them but some shrewd deals could turn this team back into a contender in a couple short years.
NEXT UP Philadelphia Phillies: A strong draft and some studs has this team on the upper end of a rebuild. The pitching staff is non-existent but that can be changed quickly. Some nice, young RPs and prospects. Things are looking up in Philly if they can keep it going.
