I had to share this with you guys. We are going over fallacies and ad hominem in both written and print media. Here is a statement that was used to show a form of fallacy. It's not so much funny in that it probably does happen, but to see it as part of my course work was funny.
Letter to the editor: Your magazine expresses sympathy for Annie Larson, a putative "fashion victim" because "animal rights terrorists" splashed paint on her mink coat. But when I think of those dozens of animals maimed and anally electrocuted to satisfy someone's vanity, I know who the real victims are, and who's the terrorist.

Well, its part of my critical thinking class. It will lead in to arguments, founded and unfounded, but its just a new way to look at things. It shows you how shady some people really are. The irony is that most of the examples they give for straw men, slippery slope and so on, are mostly quotes from speeches that politicians have given. It really makes you wonder about them, LOL.
