Okay well Ty gave me the go-ahead to contribute a bit of poor journalism to the league. I put this together pretty quickly because I was bored this morning. Hopefully this is slightly entertaining or helpful, I don't mean to offend anyone and it's just my questionable opinion that I'm expressing here. If someone can rank my draft and I'll edit it in that would be great, thanks.
1. Minnesota Twins
The Twins had a ton of picks and made them count. Jefry Marte, Engel Beltre, Craig Kimbrel, Kaneoka Texeira, Trevor Harden, Derek Norris, Scott Cousins, are all guys that are held in high regard around baseball. Then they were able to add a potential stud pick at the end of their draft in isaac galloway. Very nice.
A
2. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Dbacks left us wanting more! They grabbed two studs in matt moore and adam moore and then traded the rest of their picks.
A
3. Colorado Rockies
Rockies nabbed Chris Vernon Carter 1st round. Enough said. (also interesting pick of kevin pucetas, does he project to mlb? we'll see)
A-
4. Cincinnatti Reds
The Reds grabbed a real sleeper in michael taylor late in round 1, i had him as a top 10 pick, props to him for trading up for him. jordan danks was a very interesting pick, Juan Francisco looks like a nice gamble also. You have to really appreciate the value with wilson ramos towards the end. gervacio may end up being useful too.
A-
5. Anaheim Angels
Nice deep collection of good picks by the Angels in coke, perez, atkins, trumbo, and mccardell was a nice value pick. Pretty good for the new guy.
B+
6. Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies can walk away with a nice smile on their face. They had a model draft, grabbing a couple of nice talents in soto and freese and nabbed a great late-round sleeper on joseph cruz.
B+
7. St. Louis Cardinals
The Cards grabbed a ton a of talent in this draft and really did their homework. Although they stumbled out of the gate with their first round pick (scott lewis) likely not a potential stud, maybe not even a mlb regular, they were able to rebound by grabbing probable mlb regulars like drew suttton, matt buschmann, and jason bulger in the later rounds, and grabbing potential + fantasy players such as brad mills, moscosco, and ryan adams (if he can stop getting 40 errors a season).
B+
8. Seattle Mariners
Mariners did a pretty good job of replenishing their system by grabbing guys like Rosario, Romine, and Rondon, along with some young guys with potential. A well thought-out and planned approach to drafting.
B+
9. Cleveland Indians
The Indians absolutely nailed their first two selections and grabbed a couple of probable fantasy studs. You have to like the balance in the fact that inoa is far away yet daryl jones is mlb ready. When you
hit on your top couple of picks its kind of hard to put down a draft, but when you grab a couple of sleepers like bogusevic and jovan rosa it makes it easy to admire it.
B+
10. Toronto Blue Jays
Well, you'd never know it but the blue jays owner is a new owner in the league, he passed his first test with flying colors, grabbing potential closer jason motte with his 1st rounder and never looking back, grabbing another potential closer casey fien and was somehow able to grab mashing catching prospect michael mckenry in the 2nd round. Very nice work
B
11. Pittsburgh Pirates
The pirates got a real talent with Nick Barnese and might have found a young gem in LJ Hoes, also picking a name or two coming off an injury like James Hoey is never a bad risk to take later in the draft. Good work.
B-
12. Boston Red Sox
Red Sox seemed to want some help for the near future and had a smart draft. Ishikawa and britton look good. I love the Carignan pick.
B-
13. Atlanta Braves
Not a lot of high-end talent taken by the braves but a nice little pack of interesting names in Portillo, Ramon Ramirez (Cin), Richard, Dickerson, Hinshaw and Delgado. Even if two pan out its a successful draft, would have liked to see a little more risk, portillo is nice but hes not the talent typically seen from that type of pick. Casper Wells has some sweet fantasy potential although he is old.
B-
14. Washington Nationals
Nats did a very nice job grabbing pineda with their 1st pick, a potential stud. They then traded a few picks and finished okay.
B-
15. Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers were able to make a potential stud pick, Yorman Rodriguez, a potential value pick John Jaso, and even found time to trade a couple picks, not bad.
C+
16. Los Angeles Dodgers
Dodgers were able to grab a very nice 1st rounder in matt walker and then tried to take a player that was taken and almost got away with it in ramon flores. I like his ambition and sneakyness. Cliff Pennington was a waste of a pick but i guess he was running out of names on his list since he didnt make his last 4 picks. Kala could breakout this season like his brother, we'll see.
C+
17. Detroit Tigers
Not a lot to talk about for the tigers, they took some chances here, scott shaw looks like he could be a steal.
C+
18. Chicago Cubs
Cubs grabbed a good recent 1st round MI in pete kozma in the 8th but didn't really shock anyone with any of the other picks. An okay draft.
C+
19. Florida Marlins
Marlins started out well with Rafael Rodriguez a potential young absolute STUD player. He did make a couple of questionable picks such as Matt Whitney, a washed up probably career backup and since has neglected to complete his draft.
C
20. Tampa Bay Rays
Alfredo Aceves is a middle releiver at best and probably a long releiver, obviously not a 1st round talent. The rest of the picks are all long-shots, maybe Brett got lucky and hit on one of them, but he usually has to hit on all of them to get lucky once .
C
21. Texas Rangers
The rangers had an okay pick with Happ, who may turn out to be a league average pitcher but not much more. The other players that were selected just aren't all that talented...
D
22. New York Yankees
Yanks got lazy, drafted ramon flores, traded some picks and missed some. Flores wasn't that good of a pick where he could afford to get lazy...
D
23. San Francisco Giants
The Giants took only Giants players and it was a big mistake. If he had drafted like the New York Football Giants he would know it's always best to take the best player available. Many of these picks are just terrible values at the time they were taken, and none are all that likely to pan out besides merkin valdez.
D
24. Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles team going into this draft was stocked with minor league talent but wasn't able to add much to it if anything in a disapointing draft. Starting the draft out by taking a completely washed up prospect like Windsor was not a great start and continuing it with guys like matt tolbert didn't help. Perhaps one of these players will turn out to be a mlb regular but its a longer shot than most. We give him a break since he didn't get to do so much homework since he just joined the league. Also props to their very last pick, Cesar Valdez, a true value pick in the 10th round, scrambling to salvage the draft, as he is a more highly thought of talent than Windsor.
D
25. San Diego Padres
It's hard to assess the padres as the only guy they took was julio morban, however he did trade a couple of picks to me in exchange for mitch talbot and more. Not much to say.
