Since the Window is closed, what do we think he's getting? I think someone offered 300/6years! 50M AAV Higher Bold strategy with only 35M in cap space.

Higher Bold strategy with only 35M in cap space. Not if you defer the money...

Had to assume we're all bidding against the Angel's resolve, not even against each other

I may have gone higher, depending on the exchange rate this morning.

Imagine your player signs for 70M AAS and you franchise him and then end up owing him a higher AAS lol

I got to spend my salary cap one way or the other. Ohtani or bust

$3 M for a year. Didn’t want to overspend on a DH. Crossing my fingers it’s enough

Since it keeps getting buried in the chat, all I'm saying is we should prevent (in the future, not now) a contract from being more than a team could legally afford.
Owning Ohtani for the backloaded year would literally not be possible for all but 4 teams. All I'm proposing is a cap on backloading a contract like that.

I guess I think the better question is what type of cap are we talking about in the terms of backloading. Idk I think while sure he limits the teams from affording him in year 6, every team can afford him in year 1-5. Idk I guess I'm in the middle, I see both sides.

I think keep things as they are makes the most sense. John gets to compete for 5 titles then drop ohtani for 60m.
Or he can compete for 3 then trade a 22m ohtanti.
Lots of reasons for what he did. Johns a quality gm. No need to change rules over this in my opinion.

I'll end up with Ohtani in year 2027

Agree with BK 100%. Leave the contract rule alone.
My crystal ball envisions Whitey with Ohtani in 2027 along with every Japan MLB player on his roster. He's an all in kinda guy. The Kamikaze Sox.
These big contracts will continue each year. Change the compensation rules.
