There is probably going to be an official post on this but I wanted to get these down before forgetting as we get further away from the season. Greatly appreciate all the work everyone does for the league and if anybody needs any help in that work please don't hesitate to let me know as I'll be happy to help where I can or am needed.
Ideas for next season rule changes, I just have 2 main ones.
Free agency
A lot of free agents have multiple bids and there are a number of times that the team that won the bid doesn’t claim that player and they are reposted typically a short time later. I think teams that originally bid should get priority to sign that player at the cost they bid prior to the player needing to be reposted. If FA results are posted at some point during the weekend or Monday morning and teams have by end of day Wed to get under caps then we can use that as part of a claiming schedule. To be eligible for this, a team would have needed to place in the top 3 for a player.
From when FA results are posted until EOD Wednesday the team that won the bid can claim the player.
From Thursday through EOD Friday either the team that won the bid OR the team that was in 2nd place in the bidding can claim the player at the cost they bid.
From Saturday through EOD Sunday either the team that won the bid, 2nd place bidding team OR 3rd highest bidding team can claim the player at the cost they bid.
If a team other than the original team who won the original bidding claims that player, than they need to comment on the player thread in the FA results section so the proper cost is assigned to the spreadsheet.
Trading
Can we implement a rule where a team trading away a player can absorb a portion of the players contract for that season only? Example, this year Charlie Morton was on a 1 year 11.75M contract. A lot of teams at the deadline don’t have the cap space to make a deal for him which limits what a selling team could get to help them rebuild for next season. However, if the team that owned Morton was willing to eat 10-11M of that 11.75M contract then a lot more teams could try to buy him and help the selling team get some nice pieces for next year.
The value to be absorbed would only be an option on the current years contract. So if Morton was on a 3 year deal at the same cost, the buying team would assume his normal salary for the final 2 years of the deal.
Just some thoughts to get this going.
