For those who don't know what is going on, please catch up with some fun reading here: chinmusicupin.proboards.com/post/38150/thread
The short version:
First, Yankees owned a player on proboards and the google doc, but had not picked him up on fantrax.
Then, That player was drafted by MIL
Then, Black Kevin pointed out that he was owned already by NYY. (even though he is a FA on fantrax)
This is the sort of rule we don't account for before it actually happens, so sorry for the confusion. Anyway, for those FURTHER unfamiliar, we have a procedure for "fantrax limbo" with free agents... it is a rule on the books as follows: chinmusicupin.proboards.com/thread/7644/iv-rosters-roster-maintenance
"D. Adding Players to your Roster after Acquisition
All players acquired through trade, FA, or the draft are required to be picked up by the owning team in Fantrax. It is also the owner's responsibility to ensure the player is added to their team page on Chinmusic and to the google spreadsheet maintained by the league office.
If a player owned by Team A is not rostered on Fantrax, and such player is then posted for bid, bid upon, and the bids are processed with Team A raising no objection, the player will be deemed dropped. Team A will pay half the players salary, in accordance with rules on releasing players. The highest bidder will be awarded the player."
Basically, if no one notices all week and he gets the bids processed before someone catches it, its treates as if you dropped him and he was posted. However, this doesn't mention anything about the draft, since we never really considered this a thing, oops.
The way we will handle it now and going forward will be that players in "fantrax limbo" are NOT eligible for the draft. If you post him in FA after the draft, we will follow the rule on the books as it is now. (this all depends on us catching it in time obviously, so thank you Black Kevin for being immediately on top of it, gold star for the day for you).
That section of the rules has been amended and for those interested, NYY noticed and picked him up so he remains a yankee in this instance, if he did not see or notice and he was posted in preseason FA then he would go to the new team. While this is by no means a perfect system, it is what is fairest in this situation and in general. We cannot expect 30 people to cross reference every free agent with the spreadsheet every time they want to post or draft someone. This seems like the most fair solution, so it is what we are going with. Thank you all for cooperating and understanding and once again, gold star for Black Kevin.
