Hear ye hear ye! There will be a few rule changes taking place around here. Please read and familiarize yourself with them. They are not big ones for the most part, but you should have a look none the less. The summary is in Bold, then the details.
1. Salary cap/tag number change and date it is effective.
2. No more waivers.
3. No posting officially retired players.
4. No posting minor leaguers in the position specific Winter Meetings FA.
5. Clarify FFA rights for players who don't sign.
1. Salary cap/tag number change and date it is effective.
As discussed before, we are leveling out the tag/cap tiers a little bit effective after the 2019 season. The changing teams are as follows:
Yankees - Down 20M in cap room. Gain one tag.
Nats, Rays, Pirates, Marlins - Up 10M in cap room. Lose two tags.
Everyone else will not be affected.
2. No more waivers.
Pretty simple one here, we tried it. It didn’t really do anything. I think there has been about 3 moves in the 2 years we have had it. We certainly don’t need it and we are making the league simpler by eliminating it.
3. No posting officially retired players.
This is simply to cut down on the amount of “clutter” players who are posted. Guys who are unsigned, still looking for a team, and old are okay. Guys who have announced they are retired will be deleted.
4. No posting MiLB players in Winter Meetings FA.
Basically no players who are under the MLB thresholds during the position specific weeks. This is to cut down on the massive weeks in the offseason where there are 1000 bids and 100 players. All MiLB free agents will be handled in the “all positions” week before the season.
5. Clarify FFA rights for players who don't sign.
As we saw this year, sometimes real life FAs don’t sign. If a FFA tagged player does not sign, you may keep his tag rights (uses a roster spot and paying .4M) until he signs or until the end of the season. Alternatively, you may drop the rights anytime after opening day (if you don’t want to get stuck with a contract after opening day or want the roster spot for someone else). This is not a change of rule, just clarifying if it ever were to happen.
