Going into the offseason i liked my team but knew i had to make a few changes.
Needs i had going in the offseason:
Finding a Catcher
Upgrading MI
Finding SP
I also wanted to sell-high on the following players: Adam Duvall, Justin Verlander & Hector Neris.
Duvall
I had OF depth so Duvall was movable. Hes a low AVG masher and he probably has a couple more 30+ HR years in him but I got worried about a possible platoon. Ended up getting Carson Fulmer & Steven Matz for him. I view Fulmer as a good RP prospect and Matz as a wildcard for SP. At the time of hte trade i was thinking Fulmer may be a good source of HLDs and possibly SVs for the Sox and I needed SP so i was happy getting Matz but overall i was underwhelmed by Duvall offers. Looking back i may have gotten more if held on to him near OF free agency. Good chance i lose on this trade in the end.
Verlander
Coming off a great year and costing 17M i had 2 good reasons to move him. Got Salazar for him and am happy about that. Not sure why i didnt ask for a tag with him.. o well. Didnt get many offers on him due to the $17M salary so i jumped on the offer. Without getting the tag, i see myself losing on this trade too, Salazar is so injury prone but name recognition may end up costing too much in 2019.
Neris
Was able to turn Neris and some spare parts (Adam Fraizer & 2 picks) for Godley. Big fan of Godley and even more now that the humidor is installed. I didnt need 4 closers and although he had the best contract of my closers, its safe to say he was my 4th best closer.
Overall happy with my offseason, i was able to pick up my catcher in FA, happy to get Gattis. Never really upgraded my MI but as the offseason progressed it seems Kingery is closer to MLB at bats than he was at the beginning of hte offseason. Always been a fan of Drury and hoping move to ALE ballparks will boost his production. Also traded for Eugineo Suarez hoping he may get 5 starts at SS with Cozart gone. We'll see about that one. Still not happy about SP, pretty much all my speculative SP are either hurting or sucking in spring training.
Feel free to share your thoughts on your offseason moves/plan! Bring on March 29th!
